Sport Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government is providing funding for substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

This year the Government have doubled the amount previously given to schools. Previously Priory received £10,000 to spend on Sport and PE, this has been doubled to £20,990 for 2018-19.

Our PE and Sport provision at Priory evidences the Government guidance of 5 key indicators:

+Ensuring our children have the recommended 30 minutes of physical activity a day

+The profile of PE and Sport being raised across the school- we are developing this with a new leader in place and a new Assistant Head for Wellbeing as the Leader's coach and SLT champion for Sport. This profile is being raised across the Hales Valley MAT and not just within our own school; through inter-school competitions and sporting festivals planned for the year ahead.

+Increased confidence and knowledge and skills of all staff teaching PE; The PECS programme supported us with this over the last two academic years, however with the turnover of staff we will have new teachers to develop in the current academic year, three of which are NQTs. GT Legacy is a qualified and experienced PE teacher and has also worked alongside staff to develop their subject knowledge and improve the quality of PE teaching across the school.

+Ensuring there is a broad experience and range of activities and sports offered to children at Priory. We have already had some success with clubs such as Gymnastics, Strictly Priory (Ballroom Dance), Archery and Forest School etc.

+Increased participation in competitive sport. Priory are already having some success in this area, as our football team won the school league last year, school teams were also taken to Dudley Cross Country and Athletics for the first time and we hosted the first Rounder’s Festival for the Hales Valley MAT in June.

As a priority this year we want to develop our children's competition skills and performance, as well as ensure that PE is taught to a high standard throughout school.

We have joined the Dudley Sporting Association and our children will be representing the school in many events this year, demonstrating their skills in a variety of sports.

The funding will support us in doing this through, equipment, resources to attend competitions and events as well as funding our sports leader James Bickley who will be leading this and developing the children's skills in competition and performance.

We look forward to seeing you at these future events.

In addition, Sports Premium is being used to subsidise a number of after school clubs to provide a variety of experience to our children.
